Over the last couple of years, I have made a habit of contacting people whose work interests me.
Now, interesting could mean anything from someone who built a YouTube channel to someone who is building a business to someone writing poems for a living.
Most of the time, I never get a reply.
Sometimes, I get a reply, but it goes nowhere.
A tiny percentage of these times, I get a reply and a face-to-face meeting. But about 90% of these conversations have been blissful, where hours fly by like minutes.
I end up speaking to these people 1:1 about a ton of things. We talk about what they are building, what they have found interesting, what I am building, what they are reading, their opinions on something, and a lot more.
I was not doing these for monetary gain, to get a job, or to build a career.
I was doing it because I genuinely enjoyed enriching conversations and was searching for more.
It turns out that these folks were also doing the same, and just like me, enriching conversations fuel and fill them with joy. They were also looking for people who were mentally young and spoke with a passion.
My point is simple - reach out to interesting people. Thanks to the internet, you can contact them on LinkedIn, X, Instagram or email. Technology has made it that much easier to reach out to anyone in the world.
The worst thing is they say ‘NO’ or don’t respond. But the best thing could be an enriching conversation you remember for life.
This is something I have become keen on doing more in the future.
